Dive Team uses new boat for second demonstration of the Kongsberg scanning sonar system.
VC SAR Dive Team officers team up with Clark Magnet High School's (CMHS) Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) class and Oxnard PD divers to participate in a demonstration of the Kongsberg scanning sonar device. Both San Bernardino and Los Angeles County Sheriff Departments use the Kongsberg system with great results. Sergeant Jeff Morgan of the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department Dive Team offered to familiarize area dive teams with the sonar to enhance the safety and efficiency of their operations. Clark's EAST class is currently working on a project analyzing marine sediment samples taken in and around the LA harbor. The class was searching for a sonar device that could be used to map the ocean floor in the sampling area. It turned out to be mutually beneficial that the dive teams could share the scanning sonar with the students, while the EAST class provided the Research Vessel Vantuna chartered from Occidental College for the demonstration.
